Check out this website: mnlakecams.com It has web a cam that is updated every 12 seconds. You will be amazed how many ice houses and trucks you will see out on the ice this winter. Last year there was actually a plane that landed on the ice! Just a few days ago it was open water, now this huge lake is iced over, won’t be long now!
Many times since I was a youngster, ice fishing and summer fishing. It’s a hard lake to fish, especially in the winter. We spent days on end with no bites many times. I’d rather fish the smaller lakes like Big Sandy, Whitefish and many others up there now. I didn’t know what Walleye fishing was until I got a big boat and started fishing Lake Huron.
Although I love Minnesota waters for some fishing, the waters and the Lake Huron are still the best, clear, cool and deep. Minnesota has peat bogs surrounding most lakes and few beaches. The water in the winter looks like coffee. I’ve got more big walleyes in Lake Huron in twelve years then thirty years in Minnesota and I lived within twenty miles of forty lakes. I fished some of them every day in the winter at forty and fifty below zero.
